Two-time BDO World Championship finalist and consistent top-10 performer of the 1980s — Dave Whitcombe's reliable, methodical game made him one of the era's most respected players.

Dave Whitcombe reached the BDO World Championship final twice, in 1984 and 1986, losing to John Lowe and Dave Askew respectively. His consistency throughout the 1980s made him a fixture at the top of the world rankings. He was known for his calm, unhurried approach at the oche and his ability to perform under pressure on the biggest stages.

He reached two consecutive BDO World Championship finals but was unable to convert on either occasion — one of the decade's most unfortunate nearly-men.
