Sir Les — Newcastle's beloved centre-forward whose combination of power and technique made him one of the Premier League's finest early strikers.

Les Ferdinand was one of the finest centre-forwards of the early Premier League era. At Newcastle United under Kevin Keegan he formed a devastating partnership with David Ginola and was instrumental in the team that almost won the title in 1995-96. He scored 149 Premier League goals and won 17 England caps, scoring five international goals.

The 1995-96 Newcastle team he led came within a hair's breadth of winning the Premier League — blowing a 12-point lead to Manchester United.
