The first man to run 8 minutes for the 3,000m steeplechase — Moses Kiptanui's world records transformed the steeplechase from a niche event into a globally watched spectacle.

Moses Kiptanui was the dominant figure in steeplechase running in the early 1990s. He became the first man to break 8 minutes for the 3,000m steeplechase and won three consecutive World Championship titles. He also broke the world record for the 5,000 metres. His dominance of middle-distance events in the early 1990s helped establish Kenya's running dynasty.

He became the first human to run the steeplechase in under 8 minutes — breaking what had been considered a near-impossible barrier.
